Welcome to Awahono School – Grey Valley 

Awahono School - Grey Valley is a rural school situated in the heart of the Grey Valley.  Our catchment area includes children from Moonlight, Totara Flat, Ngahere, Haupiri, Ikamatua and Ahaura.  Awahono School is located in the village of Ahaura in the Grey Valley.  The name Awahono means the merging/joining of rivers; each of our communities has a river alongside or close by that flows into the stunning Big Grey River.

The school has a very modern range of facilities, which includes five classrooms,  library,  multi purpose room, covered outdoor areas, resource spaces, a covered, heated swimming pool, and a food technology area.  Classrooms are connected by walkways with covered verandas. 

The grounds incorporate a large open playing field with a well-equipped adventure playground, sandpit and hard court areas.  We have an orchard area, and glasshouse that are well looked after by our students.  We have recently added our bike track, that was designed by our students and constructed by our parent community.

Awahono School - Grey Valley receives good, strong community support, which is evident by the number of volunteers in the classrooms, parent helpers on excursions, attendance at assemblies, school productions, pet days, school camps and may outdoor activities.

Our school belongs to a cluster of schools known as the Midland Line. We meet with Paparoa Range, Lake Brunner, Kumara and Barrytown Schools for various sporting events in the Grey District.  We are also linked with the Toki Pounamu Cluster and the Māwhera Community of Learning school clusters.
