Information and Enrolment

Welcome to Awahono School – Grey Valley

A rural school situated in the heart of the Grey Valley, the school's catchment includes children from Moonlight, Totara Flat, Ngahere, Haupiri, Ikamatua and Ahaura. The school is a U2, decile 5, full Primary located in the village of Ahaura in the Grey Valley.  The name Awahono means the merging/joining of rivers, each of our communities have a river close by that all flow into the stunning Grey River.

The school has a very modern range of facilities which is comprised of 5 classrooms, a library, a multi purpose room, covered outdoor areas, resource spaces, and a food technology area.  Classrooms are connected by walkways with covered verandas. The grounds incorporate a large open playing field with a spacious, well-equipped adventure playground, sandpit and hard court areas. We are also very proud of our heated, 20 metre, covered swimming pool, added to the site in 2009.  We have an orchard area, and glasshouse that are well looked after by our students.  We have recently added our bike track, that was designed by our students and constructed by our parent community.

Awahono School - Grey Valley receives good, strong community support, which is evident by the number of volunteers in the classrooms, parent helpers on excursions, attendance at assemblies, school productions, pet days, school camps and may outdoor activities.

Our school belongs to a cluster of schools known as the Midland Line. We meet with Paparoa Range, Lake Brunner, Kumara and Barrytown Schools for various sporting events in the Grey District.  We are also linked with the Toki Pounamu Cluster and the Māwhera Community of Learning school clusters.

Please look around our website as it contains a lot of interesting and vital information.
