Device Usage at Awahono School
In Toki Pounamu and Manaiakalani schools, devices aren’t a babysitter or a screen to sit in front of. They’re tools that help our children learn, create, and share in powerful ways.
Our students don’t just consume — they create! They write stories, solve problems, film videos, build presentations, and share their thoughts. This approach builds confidence, independence, and communication skills.
With digital tools, students can rewatch lessons, read teacher feedback, and revisit their own work. This helps them learn better — especially those who need more time or different ways to understand.
Kids aren’t just handed devices. They are taught how to use them responsibly — including digital citizenship, online safety, and healthy screen habits.
Digital skills are life skills. From school to employment and beyond, being able to use technology well is essential. We want our students to be creators, not just consumers, in their digital lives.
Manaiakalani and Toki Pounamu was created to give all students, no matter their background, the chance to succeed using the best tools available. Devices help level the playing field.
Through digital platforms (e.g. Seesaw), you can actually see your child’s learning — what they’re writing, building, and sharing — and join the journey.
